Default The status of GW servers and their LAG

I have almost constant lag on GW. Now just to clear out all the stupid answers like "are you downloading while playing" I am gonna say that I have experience with routers and I've had computer communications class etc.

I got a DL-604 or 614 whatever can't remember router that is configured on ports 80 and 6112 (the ones gw use). I don't have it's firewall enabled and while playing my f-secure is totally shutdown. Still I spike up to 2K ping and I always have the orange connection button while playing sometimes it's green but still lags.

My lag involves, running only to find out that I wasn't actually running I was stuck behind some F***** wall all the time. Or in pvp being stuck in a slow ward and being bodyblocked while running relic, and I think I got out but I didn't. Teleportation lag, using skills and they don't come up until 1 sec later or even 2. Common stuff and it's pissing me off I already had an incident with suppor where it took them 3 months to help me get my password back. 1 month of talking then 2 months of waiting without a single response. I am seriousyl getting pissed at playing this game with the support I got (had already bought all 3 campaigns again when they responded to me and got some lame guildwars cap for it).

My internet provider has me clocked at 90% of what my speed should be 10/10 up and down fiberoptics.

So it can be that my ISp routs to GW servers in a crappy way or GW routs to various providers or routers in a crap way or the server just plain out lags like shit but that's obvious cause everyone has high ping that I know but they don't experience the amount of lag that I do.

So any suggestions except try and change ISp which is a longshot for a game that's giving me so much BS.

Is your actual computer fast enough? You have all the settings maxed out in the game? Try the game with low settings if it still exists, is there a way to contact Anet tech?

Besides teleportation lag doesn't occur from computer problems, freeze and low FPs does.

Orange button most of the time does indicate some kind of network problem.
I'd look at background processes that could generate high network utilisation.
Since you indicate you know about networking, you could try the tools from Sysinternals.com (now part of Microsoft).

I don't think routing at your provider should cause that much problems.

What does a trace route to the server you are connected to (in my case 206.127.147.164) tell you?

That bodyblocking thing is called rubberbanding. Doesn't have anything to do with actual lag, because it happens to me, and I rarely lag( I have a crappy fps, but that's just my pc ).

I was getting really bad lag myself for awhile. Shortly after Anet added the ISP on loading screens I did the trace route and found a spot between me an the server that would drag me down. Reported it to my ISP and I no longer go through that hud. Lag solved. Most lag is not cause by GW but something to do with the commnications between you and them.

Bahnhof.se is my internet provider, when the server address was diff I would get <50 ms up until tiscali.net where it would go up to 130 then timeout. Now it's a bit diff.

Packet loss might be one reason.

I've been having severe lag issues during the weekend, caused by ISP messing around, which resulted in moderate (10-20%) packet loss.

While that's not enough to drop the TCP connection, it will give you random lag spikes.

A better indication than just tracert would be pathping.

Try running the diagnostic.

Go to "Run" on the start menu and type

"C:\Program Files \Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -diag

this will give you a textfile with all the info you need to trace the problem.

having a few thousand as a ping in gw doesn't mean your lagging. if your an fps player you should be used to pinging between like 20 and 60, but GW does not require that fast of a server/client reaction, everyone's ping is really high. i ping around 40 on q3 servers, but in gw my ping is always above 2000 and thats not bad for an RPG. I havent had any lag since a few months before nightfall

2000ms ping is horrible and abominable for any and all MMOs, with exception of SecondLife.

For one, GW requires 250ms or lower ping, or you are unable to use interrupts or similar skills, not to mention healing and protection. This is also what the color coding shows (green, orange, red). For time sensitive actions like interrupts, you'll need green.

2000 ping means each action you perform is delayed by 1 second, and you respond to everything 1 second too late. So if you see a foe casting a spell, and you hit an interrupt, this interrupt will register one second after you hit the button, and you won't know of the result 1 further second after that.

I did that diagnostic as suggested and thank you very much it did help. I can see several problems with routing but my experience in networking is still limited I am going to post the network writing here if anyone can give me a clear explanation of the problem and a possible solution..

Here is the following text for the patient one.

No one here can really do anythng about it. Send the reports to Anet so they can contact thier providers and hopefully fix the problems.

Try a tool like PingPlotter or NeoTrace to trace/ping the GW servers over a longer period of time. Then when you get such a 2000 ms spike you can see where exactly the connection is choking.

Anets servers won't respond to pings or tracerts. They will only reply to the ingame diagnostic tool.

I've had really bad problems over the past few days which has resulted in wiping from the UW a couple of times amongst other gripes. I don't normally experience lag, this is new. Maybe Anet have something else kicking off?

I've had a constant 500+ ping the past couple of weeks, friend of mine has constant 2000+ spikes (almost one per minute), please post if you find a solution to this.

Have you done *any* investigation of the problem yourself? Run the diagnostic tool and see where the problem is. Most often the problem is in the routing somewhere, not with Anets servers. The least you could do is try to find out where the issue is rather than make a blanket assumption and expect someone else to do all the work for you.

Aun,

Could be a routing problem, i'm not 100% sure about this though.
You see a large spike in time after the 82.96.55.41 address in the first two traces.
On the second it's 207.138.144.189.

Perhaps that's something you could ask your ISP to check (send them the logs too).
